Tom McDonald (a historian) also replied to the website announcement of Oct. 5:

Let me give this some thought. I did go back and look at the Texas GLO and Republic Claims web sites but you seemed to have covered these.

Here is one other avenue, newspapers. Go to http://texashistory.unt.edu/ and search by his name and any variations of his name.

Look at the left side for options to narrow down you search. I like to look at old newspapers and often find unexpected info. Notice that you can search by years and decades.

Have you searched this site? http://www.lib.utexas.edu/taro/.  Or this http://www.cah.utexas.edu/research/archives_index.php?manuindex=a.

I had conversed on the phone with Tom on Aug. 24, 2011.  At that time he wrote:

Bob, I enjoyed our conversation today. I am interested in any info you might locate on Capt. Winn’s company and also as the route and method the men used to travel from GA to TX.

Here are some website you ought to consider searching:

  1. http://texashistory.unt.edu/
  2. http://dlg.galileo.usg.edu/?Welcome
  3. The attachment is for the NO Picayune newspaper
  4. http://www.newsinhistory.com/
  5. http://www.drtl.org/

Let me know if you have any questions.  Tom
